About
About Pigmento
A calm place to understand color the way painters use it, with real pigments on a real palette.
Most color tools are built for screens. They mix light, so their results don't match what happens when you mix tubes of paint. Pigmento is built for people who paint.
It's a painter's color wheel, a mixer that behaves like pigment, and clear lessons on the questions that come up at the easel: how to mix a believable green, a brown that isn't mud, a skin tone, a shadow without black.
Who's behind Pigmento
Pigmento was created by Samurai Manager, who designed the original chromatic circle studio (the interactive color wheel on the home page) and builds the site's tools and lessons. [Add a short, true bio: your painting background, which media you use, how long you've been painting or teaching, and a photo of you or your palette.]
Our mission
To make color mixing feel less like guesswork. Every lesson starts from a real question painters ask, gives a short answer you can use right away, and then explains why it works, so the next mix is easier.
What you'll find here
- The chromatic circle studio: harmonies, opposites, tints, shades and mixes on a painter's wheel.
- A pigment-based paint mixer: pick real paints and proportions and see a subtractive result.
- A shadow & highlight generator using complements, ultramarine and umbers.
- Lessons with mixing charts and recipes for acrylic, oil and watercolor, and hand-picked video tutorials from working artists.
How we make the lessons
Recipes are written from established painting practice and checked against the mixer's pigment model. Read our editorial policy and how we test for the details, including the limits of on-screen color.
Advertising & affiliate links
To keep Pigmento free, we plan to show advertising and may recommend art supplies through affiliate links. Advertising never decides what a lesson says, and recommendations will always be clearly marked.
